Primary Research Interests:
At its most general, my interest is in the question of how we ought to live. I take it that an answer to that question will require not only a moral theory of some kind, but also a theory of prudence (no doubt it requires much more besides, but these are paramount). One of my major interests is in the relationship between these two. That involves how they are defined, how they conflict, and most interestingly, what they share.
My hope is that with a meta-ethical theory of reasons - including taxonomy - we can infer normative claims about both prudence and morality.
Secondary Research Interests:
Other interests include: moral psychology, the philosophy of action, the nature of reasons, value, the prospects for moral realism, as well as political philosophy, epistemology, and metaphysics.
